A fully qualified Reflexologist and
member of the Association of Reflexologists, I have an avid interest in the mind/body
connection and support the concept that true healing takes place at both an
emotional and physical level.
As well as my
standard Reflexology training I have attended an ART
(Advanced
Reflexology Technique) seminar run by Anthony Porter. I learned some interesting
techniques and now incorporate them into my treatments.
I have also completed a
course in Vertical
Reflexology, a method devised by Lynne Booth,
which has been found to be another very effective method of treatment.
Treatment sessions are much shorter than conventional Reflexology and are performed whilst
the client is sitting, or preferably standing. Vertical Reflexology is not
meant to replace the standard Reflexology treatment and, wherever possible,
should be used as an additional technique. However, in an emergency situation
or where there is limited time available, it can be a very useful tool. If

The Therapy
This
ancient healing art which dates back to Egyptian times is becoming increasingly
popular, as many people are now seeking a more holistic approach to health.
Reflexology is a therapy which involves the stimulation of certain points on
the feet, known as reflex points. The theory is that the feet are a mini-map of
the entire body and that by applying pressure to specific areas on the feet,
balance and harmony are restored to the various body systems.
Reflexology works to improve circulation, aid in
the elimination of toxins from the system, relieve stress and tension, and help
restore the body to its normal state – known as homeostasis.
The Treatment
A
treatment usually lasts between 45 minutes to 1 hour and is a thoroughly relaxing
experience for most people. There may be some areas of sensitivity on the feet
but these are often the areas that the Reflexologist most needs to work on.
A course of treatment is recommended where there is a particularly troublesome
condition. The number of treatments however, will depend upon the severity and
duration of the condition in question.
