Andrea We’ve taken lots
from the nights we have attended the course. Your advice and support has
always been first rate, and your empathy for Barney was something I’ll
remember for sometime. It was obvious to Jo and me, even from our first
consultation how much you love animals, and it’s been a pleasure to get to
know you. I think the thing I have most to thank you for, is learning that I
don’t have to be hard or overbearing with Barney, also learning that it is OK
to have fun with him has been a godsend. I’m no longer Barney’s owner, but
his friend. Thanks again for your time and energy. I’m sure we’ll keep in
touch. Take care, Simon

WHO’S
THE HANDSOME CHAP IN THE PHOTO ABOVE? That’s
Webster. Pretty special looking boy
eh? You can read Webster’s story here. Webster is one of the lucky ones. He has a “mum” who is devoted to his well
being. So much so that she has
attended a course I am running called “Getting the Best from your Dog”. Nicola probably
doesn’t “need” to come on a course like this.
She’s not experiencing any behavioural problems with Webster as such but
she’s always looking for new ideas to make Webster’s life the best it can
be. Nicola is also keen to take her
training further – so who knows this could be the start of something! Most of us, like
Nicola are doing the best we can with our canine friends but there is so much
more to learn about them. There is
such a huge amount of information available on dog behaviour and training and
it can be a challenge sometimes to know which is the best
advice to follow. There are so
many methods, some kind, some not so kind.
My own personal journey has led me to a number of different theories
and methods and I have learned a lot.
I want to share this important information with as many people as
possible to help them and their dogs. |

The courses take
place in my “little log cabin” in the garden of my home which is located
approx a 10-minute drive from J34 on the M4. The cabin is small and cosy -
numbers are kept to a minimum. We have
plans for a bigger version in the not-too-distant future! Is the Course Accredited? No! The courses are friendly and informal - a
great environment where learning can be fun!
There is no pressure on you to sit tests or exams. The courses are purely and simply designed
to help you gain some insight into your dog’s behaviour and to foster or
perpetuate a harmonious relationship with your dog. |

Webster’s Story… Hi my name is Webster
and I would like to give hope to all the dogs out there who
may not have had a good start in life.
Today at the grand age of 6 [going on 7], I feel that I’m the happiest
and luckiest dog in the world, but I haven’t always felt this way… The first few months
of my life are a bit hazy. I think I
may have blocked them out of my memory.
What I do remember, however, is one very scary day when I was left all
alone on some wasteland. I was really
hungry and thirsty, but most of all I felt really lonely and hurt. What had I done wrong? |

|
Not
knowing what to do I stepped onto a busy road,
thinking there must have been a mistake, they must be coming back for
me. I think I was very lucky not to
get hit by car. I don’t know how long I
was there, but it felt like a lifetime, as my skin was unbearably itchy. The more I scratched the more pain I was
in, but I couldn’t stop. By this time
most of my fur had fallen out and sometimes I scratched so much that I made
myself bleed. After,
returning to the comparative safety of the wasteland, I was interrupted by
what seemed to be a kind and encouraging voice in the distance. I was a little bit afraid at first, but
then my inherent desire for human friendship took over and I ventured over to
say hello. I was exhausted so the next
thing I remember is waking up in a warm house with some strange animal that I
now know to be a cat peering down its nose at me. I know that I didn’t smell too good, but I
was too weak to respond. Little did I
know at this time that this was to be the start of my new life. I
haven’t looked back! All I’ve ever
wanted to do is to have human and animal friends that I can love and make
happy. Although I never thought that I
would be friends with a cat! I have now been given the opportunity to do this
and everyday I am so grateful. I love
to cheer people up no matter what kind of day they’ve had and I can make them
laugh by doing certain tricks like speaking.
I used to be terrified of being on my own (they call it separation
anxiety apparently), but I have grown in courage and confidence and now I no
longer have to be persuaded to leave the house. I particularly love to spin around and play
ball in the park. I have to say hello
to every dog that I meet because I just want him or her to know how great
life is. I hate it when people or dogs
get upset or angry. My mission in life
is to make those I love happy and I think by the look on my owners face when
she sees me that I have succeeded.
Last year I even jumped through hoops of fire at my local obedience
and agility class! This year I
achieved my bronze “good citizen” award from the Kennel Club [not that I want
to boast you understand] and am now a registered Pets as Therapy [PAT] dog. Basically,
like most dogs I enjoy a bit of attention.
Whenever I am out walking I always seem to get lots of
compliments. Lots of people even
suggest that I should be on the TV. I
know how proud my owner is of me and I don’t have to win any competitions for
that. |
